Global Wafer's acquisition of Shichuang was not approved by Germany

The acquisition of German wafer manufacturer Siltronic by Taiwanese wafer manufacturer GlobalWafers failed to obtain approval from German regulators in time. Previously, Universal Wafers had said the deal was still possible. The company will pay Siltron a termination fee of 50 million euros (about 358 million yuan) in accordance with the previous agreement.

On Tuesday, Universal Wafers said in a stock exchange filing that the company "failed to obtain approval from the German government by the January 31 trading deadline" and expressed "great regret" over the outcome, saying it will continue to work closely with European customers.

Siltron announced in November 2020 that it would launch in-depth negotiations with Global Wafer, which plans to acquire it for 3.75 billion euros (about 26.85 billion yuan).
