Murata to buy US company Resonant for $300 million in cash

Murata Manufacturing announced today that it will acquire Resonant for $4.50 per share in cash, which is estimated to cost $300 million. It is reported that Murata Manufacturing has invested about 700 million yen (about 38.57 million yuan) in Resonant in 2019. After the transaction is completed, Resonant will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing.

"This acquisition will combine Murata's leading mobile RF product capabilities with Resonant's best-in-class XBAR filter solutions and world-class engineering team," said Norio Nakajima, President of Murata Manufacturing. Resonant invented its proprietary XBAR technology, which technology promises to achieve higher frequencies and superior performance than other filter technologies ."

Norio Nakajima also pointed out that the radio needs of smartphones and other wireless devices will become more complex. XBAR filter technology will effectively address the complex requirements brought about by next-generation networks.

The transaction has been approved by the boards of both companies and is expected to close in March 2022.
