AMD buys a cloud company for $12 billion

Chipmaker AMD said on Monday it would buy cloud computing startup Pensando for $1.9 billion (12 billion yuan) to bolster its data center offerings and capitalize on booming demand in cloud computing and the enterprise sector. AMD said the transaction amount did not include working capital and other adjustments.

Pensando was founded in 2017 by four former Cisco engineers, and its clients include Goldman Sachs and Microsoft's cloud computing unit, Azure. The startup has developed a fully programmable processor and software platform that lets enterprise customers and data center customers operate more like cloud computing data centers, such as Amazon's AWS.
