Apple will release three watches including the iPhone 14 / Pro series

Apple's next big iPhone event will be held in September. Apple has decided to hold the event on September 13. Although the launch is still about four months away, Apple's iPhone 14 series is expected to have four models, including the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

New iPhone 14 series

According to reports, Apple will equip the iPhone 14 Pro models with TSMC's 4nm A16 Bionic chip, while non-Pro phones can reuse TSMC's 5nm A15 Bionic chip on all iPhone 13 phones. That could help Apple widen the difference between the 2022 iPhone Pro and non-Pro models. Most consumers probably don't care what chip the iPhone uses. Reusing the chip could help Apple make the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max more price-competitive.

There are reports that even if Apple reuses the A15 Bionic chips on non-Pro iPhone 14 phones, Apple may still give them a different name (such as the A16 Bionic series 4nm SoC or be named A16 Pro).

Other differences include the use of a "pill + punch-hole screen" on the iPhone 14 Pro model with a built-in True Depth camera and FaceTime camera; meanwhile, the lower-priced non-Pro models will continue to use the notch screen. Other improvements expected on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max include a 120Hz ProMotion display and a 48MP wide-angle camera on the premium models.

While the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini failed to gain traction, you can expect sales of the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max. For those who want a big display but can't afford the latest Pro Max devices, the iPhone 14 Max may be more appealing.

The long-awaited AirPods Pro 2 and three Apple Watch watches

The report says the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will start at $799 and $899, respectively. Storage options may include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max start at $1,099 and $1,199, respectively. Storage options could be 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or up to 2TB (although Apple typically makes such adjustments every two years, meaning the 256GB base option and the 2TB max storage option may not appear until 2023).

Apple is expected to unveil three Apple Watch models in September, including the Apple Watch Series 8 (again rumored to have a flat-edge design), a new Apple Watch SE budget model, and a new Apple Watch extreme sports model.

New products are also AirPods Pro 2. The long-awaited successor to Apple's premium TWS headphones. The wearable will be a short stem with next-gen active noise cancellation and support for lossless audio. The AirPods Pro 2 may also support USB-C charging from the charging case.

While many expect Apple to significantly improve battery life, that may have to wait until the launch of the iPhone 15. Previously, the 3969mAh battery inside the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max greatly increased the capacity. This is a 20% increase over the 3179mAh battery used on the iPhone 10 XS Max.

But with the launch of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple took a breather, dropping battery capacity by 7.1% to 3687mAh. Battery life does improve slightly thanks to the A14 Bionic chip used in the series. This is the first SoC built on the 5nm process node and used in the iPhone, and the transistor count has increased from 8.5 billion in the A13 Bionic to 11.8 billion in the A14 Bionic, an increase of 38.8%, which can extend battery life.

After last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max had an 18% increase in battery capacity (from 3687mAh to 4352mAh), we may not see another big jump in iPhone battery life until next year.
