Microsoft Windows 11 notebook Surface Book 3 resumes pushing storage driver firmware updates

Microsoft continues to release new firmware for its Surface computers. After bringing dynamic refresh rate support to the Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft began rolling out a new set of patches for the Surface Book 3.

This update contains no major changes. Instead, it restores a previously corrupt Surface storage driver that broke Windows installations on some Surface Book 3s.

Important: You can't uninstall firmware updates on Surface devices, so it's a good idea to check the known bugs list before installing new firmware.

This update resolves a critical security vulnerability and improves overall system stability.

The update reverts to the firmware and driver updates Microsoft released in February 2022 - which later had to be withdrawn due to a critical bug. Microsoft fixed the issue in the April 2022 firmware update, so storage firmware is now available again.

You can install the May 2022 firmware update on all models of Surface Book 3 running Windows 10 version 20H2 (October 2020 Update) or later. Microsoft says there are no known bugs in this release.
