UMC: Wafer demand continues to grow

Jian Shanjie, the co-general manager of the wafer foundry UMC, said that 2021 will be a bumper year for UMC, and it is expected that the demand for wafers will continue to grow. We will sign long-term supply contracts with customers to solve the problem of supply and demand together.

According to reports, UMC's revenue has grown for 12 consecutive quarters. Last year's revenue and profit reached new highs. The capacity utilization rate exceeded 100%. The revenue was NT$213 billion (about 48.777 billion yuan), an increase of 20.5% , and the net profit attributable to the parent company. NT$55.78 billion (approximately RMB 12.774 billion), a year-on- year increase of 91.1% .

Looking forward to the future, Jian Shanjie said that under the rapid growth of 5G, electric vehicles, and the Internet of Things, the silicon content of terminal equipment continues to increase , and the demand for wafers will continue to grow. In addition, UMC will establish long-term strategic partnerships with customers through innovative models, and sign long-term supply contracts with customers to solve supply and demand problems together.
