Apple iPhone 13/Pro Exclusive iOS 16 Portrait and Movie Mode New Camera Features

Today, Apple released iOS 16, iPadOS 16 systems, and has released the first developer preview Beta.

For iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max users, iOS 16 adds new camera app features. Apple says on its iOS 16 website that the iPhone 13 has two new portrait images and features exclusive to Movie Mode.

When using Portrait Mode, iOS 16 lets you blur objects in the foreground of your photos for a more realistic depth-of-field effect, rather than just allowing you to adjust background blur.

In movie mode, blur quality has also been improved. Apple says the depth-of-field effect is now more accurate for side angles and the edges of hair and glasses when recording video in movie mode.

The two new camera features are currently exclusive to Apple's iPhone 13 series, but the iPhone 14 is expected to support these additions as well.

iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are scheduled to release public betas in July, and developer preview betas are currently available. iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and watchOS 9 will all be publicly released this fall.
