Apple today launched the 2022 MacBook Air, which has a redesigned and updated chip. The new device includes a MacBook Pro-like body, a larger display, support for more memory, and an M2 chip.
These features come with a higher price tag, and Apple will sell the updated "M2" MacBook Air for a lower-end version of $1,199. Usually, new devices bring price cuts for older devices that remain in the lineup, but that's not the case with the MacBook Air.
Apple continues to sell the previous-generation M1 MacBook Air for $999, the same price as before. The M1 MacBook Air hasn't dropped in price, starting at $999.
The M1 MacBook Air is Apple's cheapest laptop and doesn't get a new upgrade. It continues to feature an 8-core M1 CPU and 7-core GPU, but no longer offers an 8-core GPU option.
Apple's new entry-level M2 MacBook Air costs $1,199 with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and a 256GB SSD, and the upgraded version features an 8-core GPU, 10-core GPU, and a 512GB SSD for $1,499.
Apple is also selling a 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip, which starts at $1,299, which is $100 more than the base M2 MacBook Air.
