China 5G commercialization has been completed for three years

Since the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued the 5G license on June 6, 2019, it has been three years since the commercial use of 5G in my country.

According to CCTV, my country's 5G commercialization has entered a critical period of large-scale application in the past three years.

According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of now, my country has opened 1.615 million 5G base stations, and the 5G network covers all prefectures, cities, counties, urban areas and 87% of towns and towns across the country. The total number of 5G mobile phone users exceeds 413 million. There are 2,400 "5G + Industrial Internet" projects under construction and more than 20,000 5G application cases.

Li Shan, director of the 5G Innovation Research Center of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said: In the initial stage of my country's 5G network construction, the main task is to expand the coverage. Densely populated areas such as cities are the focus of 5G coverage.

According to reports, within three years, my country has built the world's largest 5G network. At present, the 5G coverage rate of all prefecture-level cities has reached 100%, and the coverage rate of townships has exceeded 90%. Now the focus of 5G coverage has begun to shift from urban to rural areas.

According to the deployment of the "Key Points of Digital Rural Development in 2022" jointly issued by the Central Network Information Office and other five departments, by the end of this year, my country's 5G network will achieve coverage in key towns and some key administrative villages, and the Internet penetration rate in rural areas will exceed 60%.

In addition, the optimization of 5G network construction will also be the focus of the next step. At the same time, we also need to solve the problems of "poor 5G signal and weak indoor signal in places with many people". Therefore, as 5G users continue to grow, optimizing and improving network quality and improving indoor network coverage are increasingly critical. In addition to continuing to expand coverage, the development focus of 5G is gradually focusing on 5G applications.

5G is in the ascendant, and 6G begins to explore. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, guided the industry to set up the IMT-2030 (6G) promotion group, which is currently conducting research on the 6G vision and potential technologies.

Du Jiadong, deputy director of the 5G Application Innovation Center, said: In the 5G era, my country is in a leading position in the world in technology and industry.

  1. In terms of technical standards, nearly 40 companies in my country have participated in the formulation of standards, and have contributed more than 5,000 5G core design manuscripts, accounting for more than 30%, and standard essential patents accounting for 33.5%.
  2. In terms of industry, among the top five network equipment manufacturers in the world, my country has two major manufacturers, Huawei and ZTE, and Huawei ranks first.
  3. In terms of terminals, my country will occupy three of the top five manufacturers in global mobile phone shipments in 2021, namely Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo.
  4. In terms of mobile chips, my country occupies two of the top five in the world, namely Huawei HiSilicon and UNISOC, whose products have reached the international advanced level.
  5. In terms of 5G applications, there are more than 20,000 5G application projects in my country, covering more than 20 major industry categories such as industry, energy, medical care, and cultural tourism, covering 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in my country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
