Tesla’s 4680 battery launched at the “Battery Day” event on September 22, 2020, has significantly improved energy density and output power than the batteries they used before. Since its launch, it has also attracted much attention, and many battery manufacturers such as Panasonic and LG New Energy have been conducting research and development and are preparing for production.
As a battery manufacturer owned by Samsung, Samsung SDI is also developing 4680 batteries. It was reported early last month that Samsung SDI is testing a variety of 4680 batteries, at least two.
The latest reports from foreign media show that in addition to developing 4680 batteries for Tesla, Samsung SDI is also developing 4695 and 46120 batteries in the battery development project.
Like the 4680 battery, the 4695 and 46120 batteries are both 46mm in diameter but differ in height, 95mm and 120mm respectively. That is, one is 20mm lower than the 4680 battery and the other is 40mm higher than the 4680 battery.
In the report, foreign media did not mention the energy density of the two cylindrical batteries with a diameter of 46 mm developed by Samsung SDI, but considering the energy density and output power improvement of the 4680 battery launched by Tesla, it is expected there will be an improvement.
It is worth noting that when it was reported that Samsung SDI was testing a variety of batteries at the beginning of last month, the two mentioned by foreign media were also 46 mm in diameter, but the height was not the same as that in the latest report, 40 mm and 80 mm respectively. .
