SteamOS will be specially optimized for the R7 6800U version of the GPD Win Max 2 handheld

GPD WIN Max 2 handheld game book has recently started crowdfunding, equipped with Windows 11 home Chinese version system, according to official news, the handheld will get the help of Valve to run better SteamOS.

GPD confirmed on their Win Max 2 Indiegogo page that Valve has reached out to them with a proposal to optimize the SteamOS operating system for their Ryzen 7 6800U version of the handheld. This means Valve will optimize SteamOS for the Zen3+ architecture and the more powerful RDNA2 graphics architecture.

Valve's Steam Deck handheld is equipped with AMD's Van Gogh APU, and its CPU part uses the Zen2 architecture, 4-core specifications, 2.4 GHz to 3.5 GHz. For the GPU part, the Van Gogh APU integrates an 8 CU RDNA2 GPU. The Ryzen 7 6800U on the GPD WIN Max 2 has higher specifications. If it can be matched with Valve's official optimization, games running SteamOS will have better performance.

However, GPD has not announced whether it has reached a cooperation agreement with Valve, and officials say it will take about half a year to adapt. Valve has previously promised to open the latest SteamOS 3.0 to other handheld manufacturers, and it is expected that AYANEO, AYN or AOKZOE will also benefit from it.

In addition, in the game performance test of the GPD WIN Max 2 handheld gaming notebook, the Ryzen 7 6800U version almost completely outperformed the i7-1260P version, and coupled with the separate optimization of V, there seems to be no reason for everyone to buy the i7-1260P version.
