According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, since the implementation of the 5G application "Sailing" action plan for a year, the breadth and depth of China's 5G network coverage have continued to expand, and 5G applications have continued to deepen and become more practical.
As of the end of May, 1.7 million 5G base stations had been built and opened nationwide, covering all prefecture-level cities, counties, urban areas, and 92% of townships and towns across the country, with more than 12 5G base stations per 10,000 people. The number of 5G mobile phone users reached 428 million, and 5G traffic accounted for 27.2% of mobile traffic, an increase of 19.1 percentage points over the same period last year. 5G applications cover 40 categories of the national economy and are widely used in more than 200 smart mines, more than 1,000 smart factories, more than 180 smart grids, 89 ports, and more than 600 top-three hospitals across the country. The construction of virtual private networks in the 5G industry has been accelerated, increasing from 1,655 in July last year to 6,518, an increase of nearly three times, and the ability to serve the development of the industry has been significantly enhanced. All localities have increased the supply of 5G application policies, and jointly promoted 5G applications into the fast lane by building innovative platforms, increasing financial support, and promoting typical cases.
On July 12, 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the Central Cyberspace Administration of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, and other nine departments, launched the implementation of the 5G application "Sailing" action plan. Over the past year, with the joint efforts of all parties, the breadth and depth of my country's 5G network coverage have continued to expand, and 5G applications have continued to deepen and become more practical. The digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, the improvement of the resilience of the industrial chain and the supply chain, and the promotion of high-quality economic development have injected strong impetus.
