Apple today pushed the watchOS 9 developer preview Beta 5 update (build number: 20R5343e) to Apple Watch users. This update is 10 days after the last release. The watchOS 9 Developer Preview Beta 5 contains some changes, and according to the changelog on Apple's developer site, after updating to watchOS 9, an Apple Watch Series 4 or Series 5 will recalibrate and then more accurately estimate its maximum battery capacity.
Repair:
- Fixed an issue where applying VoIP functionality to a WatchKit extension target caused CallKit transactions to fail with "Error Code 1" (Unauthorized).
Deprecated:
- To improve security, CGImageCreate enforces parameter correctness on macOS 13 Ventura, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16. Passing an incorrect CGImageByteOrderInfo is no longer supported, which will cause the image to fail to load.
- Network: FTP is deprecated for URLSession and related APIs. Please use a modern secure network protocol, such as HTTPS.
- StoreKit: Deprecated SKDownload API and removed the option to upload non-consumable in-app purchase assets for Apple escrow. Additionally, as of April 2022, managing these assets in App Store Connect will no longer be supported.
Known issues:
- Voice Shortcuts: When an app shortcut phrase is spoken to Siri, Siri launches the app or ends with unexpected results.
- Workout: Driving directions removed from watchOS 9 Developer Preview Beta 5.
