Apple's iPhone 14 / Pro has slightly increased prices

Apple has announced that it will hold a "Far Out" special event at 1:00 am Beijing time on September 8. This time, the online conference is still used, and it is expected to bring new products such as the iPhone 14 / Pro series, Apple Watch Series 8, and the official version of iOS 16. Multiple previous revelations have shown that the price of the iPhone 14 series is expected to be higher than that of the iPhone 13 series, but a new report today suggests that the increase may be lower than expected.

There are many reasons to expect Apple to raise the starting price of this year's iPhone 14 lineup, from new features to increased component costs... First, and most obviously, the iPhone 14 non-Pro models are changing from mini and standard models to standard and Max models. More users will be able to choose the 6.7-inch screen model at a lower price, but the larger device is more expensive to manufacture, especially the display, and we can expect Apple to "raise the price" on the iPhone 14 Max to make a handsome profit.

On the iPhone 14 Pro model, the camera sensor has been upgraded from 12MP to 48MP. Apple will likely deliver a 48MP image in bright daylight and use Smart Zoom to create a less noisy 12MP image in low light. There will also be support for an 8K video recording. Some institutions believe that Apple may abandon 128GB of basic storage this year and start with 256GB of storage. Additionally, a rough report claims that all models will feature 6GB of RAM.

The iPhone 14 series is also likely to gain satellite communications capabilities. Not sure though, and probably limited to SOS use in any case. Then, of course, both the standard and Pro models are expected to see a very noticeable redesign. The standard model is expected to see the notch shrink, while the Pro model will feature a "pill + punch" design.

With component costs rising significantly, Apple is expected to set aside profits further. IT House has learned that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that the increase in the price of components of the iPhone 14 series and the popularity of the iPhone 14 Max will increase the average selling price this year by 15%.

According to previous forecasts, the iPhone 14 standard model will remain at $799, but the iPhone 14 Max will start at $899, and both iPhone 14 Pro models will increase by $100. This means that the starting price is:

  • iPhone 14: $799
  • iPhone 14 Max: $899
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $1099
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1199

However, in the latest update, market intelligence firm TrendForce said Apple is expected to tread cautiously with modest price increases given the sluggish economy and the smartphone market slump.

“Upgrading the initial memory capacity to LPDDR5 6GB and 256GB, the main camera moving up to 48 million pixels, and the Face ID design changes are expected to increase the initial price. However, under the pressure of global inflation and rising exchange rates, Apple is expected to take a more prudent pricing strategy so as not to affect its sales performance."

Therefore, the agency predicts that the price increase of the iPhone 14 series will be smaller, and the starting price will be:

  • iPhone 14: $749
  • iPhone 14 Max: $849
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $1,049
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1149

That is to say, the average price of the iPhone 14 series has increased by US$100 (about 691 yuan) before, and the new forecast of the research institute believes that the price of the iPhone 14 series will increase by about US$50 (about 345.5 yuan) on average, but the price will still increase.
