In the past two years, due to the impact of the epidemic, the supply chain of the chip industry was disrupted, and chip prices soared. Now, there is a price reduction in the chip market.
For example, an STMicroelectronics chip is the core component of the electronic control system. In 2021, the market price once rose to about 3,500 yuan, and in 2022, it fell from a high to about 600 yuan, a price reduction of more than 80%. The price of another type of chip will remain at about 200 yuan in 2021, and the current price is only about 20 yuan each, only one-tenth of the highest price. In LED lighting products, light-emitting chips and driver chips are used, and the prices of these two types of chips have also begun to fall this year.
Since the beginning of this year, the market price of consumer electronics control chips has also continued to decline, falling from a high of 100 yuan to double digits. Taking mobile phones as an example, global mobile phone sales will decline in 2022, resulting in an oversupply of electronic chips for mobile phones. Major mobile phone manufacturers have lowered their shipment targets and cut orders from upstream chip manufacturers.
According to the report, Qualcomm is going through a "order-cutting action". It has reduced orders for the Snapdragon 8 series by about 15%, and will cut the price of the two flagship mobile chips by about 40% by the end of the year. Samsung Electronics said that the inventory of mobile phone memory chips is high, and future sales may weaken further, and the company is working hard to destock.
