The gap between supply and demand is widening

Gartner, a well-known research institution, recently updated its forecast for the foundry industry, pointing out that the foundry capacity utilization rate will decline quarter by a quarter from the second quarter of this year, mainly due to the continuous release of new capacity supply, and terminal electronic products. Consumer demand fell.

Gartner predicts that after global equivalent 8-inch wafer shipments reached 22 million in the fourth quarter of last year, quarterly shipments will fluctuate between 22 million and 23 million this year and next, while production capacity will continue until the end of last year. Growth to 28 million wafers (8-inch equivalent) in a single quarter.

As the gap between production capacity and shipments widens, Gartner believes that the wafer foundry capacity utilization rate will drop to 90.3% in the third quarter of this year, 86.5% in the fourth quarter, and is expected to decline to about 80% by the end of next year.
