Apple explains why the AirPods Pro 2 earbuds aren't compatible with the original AirPods Pro

Apple today explained why the new silicone ear tips of the second-generation AirPods Pro are not compatible with the original AirPods Pro. In an updated support document, Apple said that the mesh of the original AirPods Pro earbuds is "significantly denser" than the second-generation earbuds, so it may cause acoustic differences, but Apple did not provide any acoustic details.

The support document mentions: "The earbuds are specifically designed for the AirPods Pro 1st generation to provide the highest fidelity audio experience. Therefore, please use the earbuds that came with your AirPods Pro. The AirPods Pro (1st gen) earbuds have a pronounced mesh Densier than AirPods Pro (2nd gen) earbuds."

Despite the different mesh, the earbuds of the AirPods Pro 2 do fit the original AirPods Pro, so they are still physically compatible.

Compared to the previous generation, the second-generation earbuds offer a new XS option, while the AirPods Pro earbuds are still only available in small, medium, and large sizes, and are priced the same at $7.99 for a set of two.
