Apple iPadOS 16.1 Beta 3 adds support for Matter protocol accessories

Recently, Apple released the iPadOS 16.1 developer preview Beta 3 update, and the official version of iPadOS 16.1 is expected to be released in October this year. Some netizens found that after upgrading the iPadOS 16.1 preview version, the Matter accessories option (Settings → General → Matter accessories) appeared on the iPad device.

The Matter Accessories section on the iPad device says, "The above Matter accessories have been added to Connected Services, and they can also be added to more services through Matter-enabled apps."

However, in June this year, an Apple spokesperson said that the iPad can still be used as a Home Hub, but there is a caveat: the iPad will not support the new home architecture that will be launched later this year. A previous preview page for iOS 16 noted that the Matter accessory relies on the Apple TV 4K or HomePod as the Home Hub, with no mention of the iPad. But now it looks like Apple may have a change of heart.

The Matter smart home protocol is jointly launched by giants such as Google, Amazon, and Apple. It is compatible with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit ecosystems. Devices that support Matter can be interconnected, get rid of the restrictions of platforms and systems, and realize different brands. Multi-party collaboration between products.
