Apple iPhone 14 Pro/Max screenshots and screen recordings only show the pill screen

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will be delivered to customers and launched in Apple Store retail stores on Friday, September 16th, and now the first evaluation of these devices has been released.

The Smart Island is unique to the iPhone 14 Pro series models, and it replaces the traditional notch screen on the iPhone 13 series models. With the help of software, Pill + Punch morphs into different shapes and sizes for incoming calls, alarms, notifications, Face ID authentication, timers, turn-by-turn navigation, real-time activity, and more.

Smaller details that can now be confirmed are that the Smart Island area is only visible in the screenshots of the iPhone 14 Pro/Max models when the Smart Island is used by an app, or when the camera/mic indicator dot is active. The screenshot, in this case, shows the entire Smart Island, including any added elements, such as the circular timer icon.

On the other hand, Smart Island doesn't appear in screenshots when it's completely inactive. In this case, the screenshot just shows the wallpaper behind the smart island, which is the same behavior as the screenshot on the iPhone with the bangs screen.

This approach may be more in Apple's style, as it contains information that may be valuable for screenshots when Smart Island is actively used. According to Marques Brownlee's review of the iPhone 14 Pro models, the same behavior applies to on-device video recordings.
