Apple Watch Ultra battery capacity is 76% larger than Series 8

According to newly discovered specifications in a Chinese certification database, the Apple Watch Ultra has a battery capacity that is 76 percent larger than the 45mm Series 8. The certification spotted by MySmartPrice indicates that the Apple Watch Ultra has a 542mAh battery. The 45mm Apple Watch Series 8 features a 308mAh battery, a 76% increase in battery capacity in the Apple Watch Ultra compared to the largest Apple Watch before it.

The documents also confirm that in addition to the Apple Watch Series 8 featuring the same CPU as the Series 6 and 7, the new Apple Watch shares the same battery capacity. The 41mm Series 8 has a 282mAh battery, while the Series 7 has a 284mAh battery. The small difference in battery size is unlikely to be noticeable. The 45mm Series 8 also shares the same battery capacity as the 45mm Series 7.

With the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple promises the same all-day battery life as the previous-generation model. Apple says that with the Apple Watch Ultra, users can expect up to 36 hours of normal usage and up to 60 hours of low-power mode, delivering the longest battery life ever on an Apple Watch.

The low power mode is available for all Apple Watch models supported by watchOS 9, and it extends battery life by disabling background app refresh, AOD always-on display, background blood oxygen measurement, and other functions.
