At the press conference, Apple specially introduced the "Smart Island" design of the iPhone 14 Pro, which looks like a long or variable-shaped pill. Some netizens even think that the hardware is equipped with pills to dig holes, and there is no screen in the middle. However, it is not.
According to the pictures on Apple's official website, the iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max is indeed equipped with an "exclamation mark" hole-digging screen. That is the "Pill + Single Punch" screen. However, with the software adaptation of iOS 16, the "Smart Island" design further dilutes the "exclamation mark" digging holes. In terms of display, the middle screen is always in a black state.
Apple says Smart Island brings users a whole new way to interact with the iPhone, blurring the lines between hardware and software, with real-time changes showing important reminders, notifications and events. With the introduction of Smart Island, the TrueDepth camera has been redesigned to reduce the display space it takes up. On the premise of not affecting the display of the screen content, the smart island remains active, allowing users to use the control options with just a long press. In addition, Smart Island works with third-party apps in iOS 16 that provide information (such as game scores and carpool information) through Live Activity. Blurring the line between hardware and software, Smart Island flexibly unfolds into various shapes to clearly visualize important operations such as Face ID verification.
