BYD surpassed LG New Energy again in July to become the world's second largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer

Research institutions reported that BYD replaced LG New Energy in July and became the world's second-largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer, second only to CATL. According to reports from research institutes, in July, the global installed capacity of electric vehicle batteries was 39.7 GWh, an increase of 17.9 GWh from 21.8 GWh in the same period last year, and an increase of 82.6% year-on-year.

Of the 39.7 GWh of batteries newly installed in July, CATL supplied 13.3 GWh; BYD supplied 6.4 GWh, more than triple the 2.1 GWh in the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of 205.6%, and its market share soared from 9.7% to 16.2%.

LG New Energy, which was the second largest supplier in June, supplied 4.4GWh of batteries in July, higher than the 4.1GWh in the same period last year, an increase of 5.9% year-on-year, and its proportion fell from 19% to 11%.

According to the report of the research institute, LG New Energy was replaced by BYD in July, mainly because their supply dropped sharply. The installed capacity is 5.1GWh.

Although BYD's installed capacity in July was higher than that of LG New Energy, there is still a gap between BYD's installed capacity in the first seven months of this year.

The report of the research institute shows that in the first seven months of this year, LG's new energy electric vehicle battery installed capacity was 34.3GWh, the second-generation supplier after CATL, and BYD's installed capacity was 30.3GWh, the third largest. big manufacturers.

It is worth noting that with the substantial increase in the production and sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the gap between BYD and LG's new energy electric vehicle battery installed capacity is gradually narrowing. In the first half of this year, the gap between the two was 5.2GWh. , after July, has narrowed to 4GWh.
