China Mobile: 5G millimeter wave needs to be developed and can accumulate experience for 6G

With the continuous development of 5G, the technology of the 5G industry is becoming more and more abundant. On September 14th, the 2022 China Information and Communication Industry Development High-level Forum opened in Beijing. The theme of this forum is “Empowering the Future with Digital Intelligence” and will continue until September 16th.

Today, Wang Jianzhou, the former chairman of China Mobile Communications Group, said at the forum that when 5G first appeared, some telecom operators in the world started 5G network construction using millimeter waves, which resulted in their small 5G coverage, high construction costs, and the 5G industry. develop slowly. In the early stage of construction, my country adopted the frequency of medium and low-frequency bands, which puts my country in a leading position in 5G construction. At present, the use of medium and low-frequency bands to build 5G networks has become the international mainstream.

Wang Jianzhou said that the network is the foundation of the digital economy, and it is very important to build a high-quality, full-coverage network. As for spectrum resources, at this year's Mobile World Congress, industry insiders began to discuss the use of 600MHz frequencies to build 5G networks. In this regard, Wang Jianzhou said: "I am not opposed to the use of millimeter waves in 5G, especially in hotspot areas where the amount of data is particularly concentrated and in enterprise private networks, millimeter waves can play a very good role. In addition, we also need to provide 6G for 6G . We have accumulated experience in using millimeter waves, so millimeter waves also need to be developed. ”

According to a previous report, on August 19, Xu Bo, deputy director of the Radio Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will issue a plan for the use of 5G millimeter-wave frequency bands in stages based on the current situation of the industry.

Public information shows that millimeter waves have the advantages of a rich spectrum and small delay. Specifically, millimeter waves can provide higher user experience rates, meet the large-capacity concurrent business needs of public network and industry users, and further improve 5G network capabilities.
