Counterpoint: China will account for 67% of global mobile phone production in 2021

Counterpoint released a report saying that in 2021, China will contribute 67% of global mobile phone production, mainly because Apple and other Chinese OEMs have not fully filled the vacancy caused by Huawei's decline in production. In 2020, Huawei accounted for a large portion of China's total production.

Counterpoint said that unlike Huawei, which mainly produces phones domestically, other Chinese OEMs are diversifying their production bases to meet local market demand by producing in their own country. Apple, which has a high proportion of its production in China, is also seeking to diversify its production base. As Chinese consumer demand for mobile phones decreases, the proportion of Chinese production is also expected to decline in the future.

According to the report, India will account for 16% of global mobile phone production in 2021. Driven by Apple, Xiaomi, and OPPO, India, the second-largest region in the world for mobile phone production, saw production increase by more than 5% year-on-year. In addition, Vietnam will account for 10% of total global mobile phone production in 2021, similar to a year ago.

Counterpoint expects that the global mobile phone market production in 2022 will drop by 8% compared with 2021 . From 2023, the production volume of the mobile phone market is expected to maintain a low single-digit percentage growth . Under the pressure of the slowdown in market growth and the continuous decline in the average selling price of mobile phones, mobile phone brand manufacturers may passively maintain centralized production bases to reduce costs.
