Recent rumors confirm that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus may get an improved version of Apple's A15 Bionic processor, while the 14 Pro/Pro Max will get a more powerful version of the A16 Bionic. According to data published by The Wall Street Journal, the new processors will provide a slight improvement in graphics performance compared to the base A15 versions found in the iPhone 13 line.
The source has not yet specified exactly how improvements should be expected, but it can be assumed that they focus on improving the GPU. The fact is that in 2021, Apple introduced two versions of the A15 Bionic. One of them was equipped with a 4-core GPU and was used in the cheap iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. The second had a 5-core GPU and was installed in the more expensive iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This gave a 55 percent increase in video performance compared to the A14 Bionic GPU. By comparison, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini graphics were only 15% more powerful than the A14.
In addition, the A15 Bionic's high-performance processor cores were clocked at 3.23GHz, although the iPad mini 6's frequencies were cut to 2.99GHz, technically creating a third version.
It is assumed that in the new generation the company will use the same strategy. Therefore, probably, the “improved” version is a refurbished A15 model with 5 GPU cores. Perhaps it will also increase the frequency or provide other improvements.
