Kioxia Announces Industry's First 2 TB MicroSDXC Memory Card

Kioxia today announced the industry's first 2 TB microSDXC memory card prototype, using its innovative BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and in-house designed controller. As the data capacity of smartphones, action cameras, and portable game consoles continue to increase, the demand for ultra-large-capacity SD memory cards to store these data is at an all-time high. The SD Association's SDXC specification has supported memory cards up to 2 TB for over a decade, but until now there has been no success in making a 2 TB memory card.

The Kioxia 2 TB card working prototype is designed using the company's proprietary manufacturing technology and consists of a stack of 16 1 Tb 3D flash memory chips with a maximum thickness of 0.8 mm in the chip mounting area, suitable for high-capacity data logging applications. The Kioxia 2 TB microSDXC memory card is scheduled to start mass production in 2023.
