Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple's iPhone 14 Pro models will account for 65% of iPhone 14 series shipments in the second half of 2022

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released recent trend forecasts for Apple, iPhone 14, and the supply chain tonight. Ming-Chi Kuo said that after the production line switch, iPhone 14 Pro series shipments will account for 60–65% of the overall iPhone 14 shipments in 2H22 (vs. 55–60% previously estimated). The iPhone 14 Pro Max accounted for about 30–35% of the overall iPhone 14 series shipments in 2H22, making it the most popular iPhone 14 model.

Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPhone product mix will improve, so Apple may put forward a positive outlook for 4Q22 at the end-October earnings meeting (assuming that iPhone shipments do not decline significantly after late November). If Apple's outlook for 4Q22 is positive, the main beneficiary of the iPhone 14 Pro series may have potential upside in revenue and profit from the iPhone business in 4Q22, including:

  1. Sony (48MP CIS exclusive supplier)
  2. Largan (the main supplier of telephoto lenses and the second supplier of ultra-wide-angle VCM).
  3. LG Innotek (exclusive supplier of rear CCM)
  4. Alps (exclusive telephoto VCM supplier)
  5. Minebea (the main supplier of ultra-wide-angle VCM)
  6. Samsung Display (almost the exclusive supplier of Pro panels)
  7. Industrial Fulian / Hongzhun (the main supplier of stainless steel metal middle frame)
  8. Hon Hai (Pro series exclusive EMS)

Yesterday, Ming-Chi Kuo pointed out that Apple has asked Hon Hai Foxconn to switch the production line of the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 14 Pro model, which is equivalent to increasing the forecast for iPhone 14 Pro shipments in the fourth quarter by about 10%.

A the "Far Out" event in September, Apple released the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, retaining most of the iPhone 13's design - including for the phone's selfie camera and Face ID sensor bangs grooves. Apple also introduced the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with a "smart island" pill screen to show alerts and background activity, brighter displays and AOD always-on display, an A16 bionic chip, new color options, and more. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max are already on sale, and the iPhone 14 Plus will be available on October 7th.
