NVIDIA engineer: DLSS 3 can theoretically be turned on on RTX 20/30 series graphics cards

On the evening of September 20, NVIDIA officially released DLSS 3 technology, which will debut on October 12 with the launch of the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.

According to reports, DLSS 3 is powered by the new fourth-generation Tensor Core and the new optical flow accelerator of the GeForce RTX 40 series GPU. It is the latest version of NVIDIA's deep learning super-sampling technology and has a groundbreaking optical multi-frame generation function.

Recently, NVIDIA engineers answered whether the old RTX 20/30 series graphics cards that everyone cares about support DLSS 3. The result is that the theory can support it, but only a little.

Bryan Catanzaro, vice president of applied deep learning research at NVIDIA, said that DLSS 3 relies on an optical flow accelerator, which has been significantly improved in Ada over Ampere, so the current version is only available for the RTX 40 series. And in theory, with additional research and engineering, they could get the technology to work on RTX 20/30 series graphics cards, but probably not very well.

Therefore, NVIDIA's new DLSS technology has abandoned the old graphics card from the current point of view, similar to the situation in the previous versions.

More than 35 games and applications have announced that they will soon support DLSS 3, the technology that will soon support the world's most popular game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
