Q2 Global TWS headset shipment ranking

The latest statistics from Canalys showed that the global shipments of personal smart audio devices in the second quarter of 2022 reached 98.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%. As the world's third-largest market for personal smart audio devices, India bucked the trend this quarter, with shipments up 55.0%, the report noted. But India's gains weren't enough to offset the overall decline in global markets, which fell 1% in the U.S. and 13% in China. TWS was the only personal smart audio device category to grow, increasing 8% to 63 million units.

The top five TWS shipments in the second quarter of 2022 were Apple (27.8%), Samsung (9.3%), Xiaomi (5.3%), boAt (5.2%), and Skullcandy (4.1%).

According to Canalys, Indian consumers are rapidly switching to TWS, resulting in a slowdown in the growth of the wireless neckband category to 11.1%. TWS shipments in India increased by 217.9% to 7 million units, accounting for 11% of the global market share, a record high. boAt led the TWS market in India with a 47% market share, while Noise and OPPO (including OnePlus) rounded out the top three with triple-digit growth of 508% and 583%, respectively.

In addition, Apple continues to lead the global TWS market. While shipments of the AirPods TWS line slowed to 2% to 15.3 million units, Apple's audio brand Beats by Dre improved in performance, helping Apple achieve overall 13.1% shipment growth in the second quarter.
