Q2 Latin American smartphone market shipments reached 32.2 million units

The latest data from Canalys shows that in the second quarter of 2022, Latin American smartphone shipments reached 32.2 million units, down 2.5% year-on-year, and the overall decline was still smaller than the global year-on-year decline (-9%).

To the report, in the second quarter of 2022, the top five mobile phone manufacturers in Latin America in terms of smartphone shipments were Samsung (36%), Lenovo (22%), Xiaomi (17%), Apple (5%), Transsion (4%).

Canalys said the polarizing trend intensified in the second quarter, with increasing shipments in the sub-$100 and above-$500 price ranges, which is a trend that favors Apple as its entire product portfolio is priced above $500.

Among them, Apple's successful launch of the iPhone 13 series coupled with its conservative pricing strategy has achieved a 16% year-on-year increase in shipments in a hyperinflationary environment. Lenovo and Samsung have also benefited from this trend, with shipments rising, although both brands are not priced in the two price ranges above, and both companies’ shipments were lower than the overall market decline.

In addition, Xiaomi's shipment growth in Brazil and Argentina during the quarter allowed it to maintain its growth momentum in those regions and narrow the gap with the second-largest player Lenovo.
