SA: Qualcomm leads the baseband market with a 59.5% share in Q1

Strategy Analytics released its baseband chip report for the first quarter of 2021 today. Baseband revenue increased by 20% to US$8.8 billion (about 60.72 billion yuan), and unit shipments fell by 6%. 5G baseband revenue grew 47% in the first quarter, while shipments and revenue declined in the rest of the baseband business.

According to Strategy Analytics statistics, Qualcomm firmly occupies first place in the baseband chip market with a share of 59.5%, MediaTek ranks second with a share of 26.7%, and Samsung LSI ranks third with a share of 5.8%.

Strategy Analytics believes that Samsung and Apple will be the largest customers of Qualcomm baseband. With the widespread shipment of the iPhone 14/Pro series in the second half of the year, Qualcomm's share is expected to continue to increase.

MediaTek's baseband revenue increased by 28% in the first quarter, but Dimensity 9000 shipments were less than 1 million, and it is expected to face inventory pressure in the second half of the year. The situation of Samsung LSI is even worse. The high-end is grabbed by Qualcomm, and the low-end is grabbed by MediaTek and Ziguang Zhanrui. It is expected to reach the lowest level in 8 years this year. In addition, Ziguang Zhanrui's baseband revenue increased by 80%.
