Samsung admits security hack and customer privacy breach

Samsung sent out a letter to customers, in which it told about a rather serious security breach that occurred recently. Samsung said that a security breach in its system led to the potential exposure of customers' personal information. Although there are not many details about the attack itself, the company noted that the attack took place at the end of July this year, right before the wave of pre-orders for the Fold 4 and Flip 4.

At the end of July 2022, unknown individuals received information from some Samsung systems in the US. On August 4, 2022, during our ongoing investigation, we determined that some customers' personal information was affected. - Samsung

The information leak may vary depending on the Samsung customer as this data security breach has not affected everyone in the same way. Names, addresses, dates of birth, and product registration information may have been leaked. The email clearly states that no credit/debit card details were compromised in this attack.

Samsung noted that authorities and third-party experts were involved in studying this attack. Other steps taken include a FAQ page for customers to resolve issues. This attack only affected US customers.
