Samsung shows expansion to supply Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max's LTPO digging screen

According to a CINNO Research report, Samsung Display is expected to increase the supply of OLED panels for Apple's iPhone 14 series Pro high-end models. This model uses LTPO TFT and hole-drilling screens. As rival LG Display faces difficulties in improving the production yield of OLED panels, part of the supply is likely to be taken over by Samsung Display. Samsung Display ordered additional equipment from a partner company in order to absorb the increased material volume.

Samsung said it will supply Apple with more organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for the iPhone 14 series this year than originally planned. Samsung Display supplies OLED panels for a total of 4 models of the iPhone 14 series. The model expected to change dramatically is the highest-end model, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, the report said. This model adopts the technically difficult low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin film transistor (TFT) and hole-drilling screen, etc., while the competitor LG Display faces the challenge of improving yield, and part of the order supply will be transferred to Samsung Display.

According to the report, LG Display will supply the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max screens. In addition to LG Display, the regular OLED panel suppliers for the iPhone 14 include Samsung Display and BOE. It was previously reported that Samsung exclusively supplied the iPhone 14 Pro Max screen in the early stage, and will now expand the OLED supply of this model.

Data shows that 82% of the displays in Apple's iPhone 14 / Pro series are supplied by Samsung, LG Display ranks second with 12% of orders, and BOE covers 6% of all iPhone 14 series panel orders. After the new phone is released in September, LG will increase the supply of OLED screens.

According to Apple's official introduction, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. Both models feature a new Super Retina XDR display that supports ProMotion technology. Thanks to the blessing, the all-weather display is realized on the iPhone for the first time. This makes the new lock screen even more useful, with the time, widgets, and real-time activity always visible at a glance. This advanced display also delivers the same HDR peak brightness as the Pro Display XDR display, and the highest outdoor peak brightness ever seen in an iPhone: up to 2,000 nits, twice that of the iPhone 13 Pro.
