SEMI: Global fab equipment spending is expected to reach nearly $100 billion in 2022

SEMI released a report saying that in 2022, global fab equipment spending is expected to increase by about 9% year-on-year, reaching a historical record of $99 billion (about 709.83 billion yuan). new highs.

After reaching record levels in 2022, the global fab equipment market is expected to continue its healthy growth next year, driven by new fab construction and upgrades, said SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha. The report expects:

  • Taiwan will lead fab equipment spending in 2022, with investment up 47% year-on-year to $30 billion (about 215.1 billion yuan)
  • Followed by South Korea, which reached 22.2 billion US dollars (about 159.174 billion yuan), down 5.5%
  • Mainland China was US$22 billion (about 157.74 billion yuan), down 11.7% from the peak last year
  • Spending in Europe/Middle East is expected to reach a record $6.6 billion this year, up 141% year-on-year
  • Investments in the Americas and Southeast Asia will also hit record highs in 2023

The report states that global production capacity will increase by 7.7% this year , following a 7.4% increase in 2021 . Capacity is expected to continue growing by 5.3% in 2023. Additionally, the Foundry segment will account for 53% of device spending in 2022 and 2023, followed by memory at 32% and 33% in 2022 and 2023, respectively. These two have the largest increase in production capacity.
