Semiconductor materials market size is expected to grow nearly 9% to $69.8 billion in 2022

The International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) released a report that in 2022, the overall size of the semiconductor materials market is expected to grow by 8.6%, reaching 69.8 billion US dollars, a record high. Among them, the wafer material market will increase by 11.5% to $45.1 billion; the packaging material market will increase by 3.9% to $24.8 billion.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more people are working and studying from home, leading to increased demand for various semiconductor products such as chips used in smartphones and computers. Driven by the strong demand for semiconductor products, the demand for semiconductor materials has also increased significantly, resulting in an expansion of the semiconductor materials market.

In March this year, data released by SEMI showed that in 2021, the global semiconductor material market will reach US$64.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.9% compared with US$55.5 billion in 2020, reaching a new high. Among them, the size of the wafer material market was US$40.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.5%; the size of the packaging material market was US$23.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%.

Looking ahead, SEMI predicts that the semiconductor materials market is expected to exceed $70 billion in 2023.
