UK iPhone SE 3 phones are also more expensive

At the "Far Out" conference held early this morning, Apple released new products such as the iPhone 14 series. While all eyes are on the new iPhone 14 series, Apple's budget phones are actually slightly more expensive at least in the UK. The iPhone SE 3 has been predicted by analysts to attract 1 billion Android users to switch.

As TechRadar spotted, the iPhone SE 3 is now priced at £449 in the UK, up from £419 prior to the iPhone 14 launch a full £30 more. Apple's price hike is likely due to rising inflation in the country. Not only that, the pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985. While this type of price change is uncommon in Europe and the UK, other regions are more accustomed to it - such as Brazil, India and Turkey.

While other iPhones have reportedly been unaffected by sales, the iPhone SE 3 has been controversial because its flagship feature, 5G, wasn't enough to entice the American masses to buy the phone. But the iPhone SE 3 fared better in Europe. The European smartphone market fell 11% year-on-year and 13% quarter-on-quarter to 40 million units in the first quarter of 2022, the lowest quarterly total since the second quarter of 2020, according to Counterpoint Research. Both volume and market share increased year-on-year. They also saw a sequential decline due to their exit from the Russian market.

“Q2 2022 results were mixed and year-on-year belies complex market dynamics. From an industry and macro perspective, Europe has changed a lot compared to last year or even last quarter,” said Jan Stryjak, associate director at Counterpoint Research.

Stryjak said the situation in Europe would remain bleak for the rest of the year. "Many European countries are gradually approaching recession, and domestic political tensions are rising in many countries outside Russia and Ukraine."

The 5G iPhone SE 3 was launched in March this year. The "classic design" 4.7-inch phone is priced at $429 in the US (starting at $3,499 in China) and features an A15 Bionic chip, a 12MP main camera with Deep Fusion technology, Smart HDR 4, and iP67 certification for water and dust resistance.
