XL Axiata adopting Huawei technology can reduce electricity consumption by 26%

Indonesian telecommunications company XL Axiata chief technology officer I Gede Darmayusa said in a statement on Wednesday that adopting Huawei's network technology, is expected to reduce power consumption by up to 26%.

He said that the new technology of FDD Smart 8T8R can use electricity more efficiently, and the user capacity is twice that of 4T4R technology. The company has now used the new technology in more than 700 4G base stations. Its telecommunications network has a total of 88,000 base stations.

Huawei Chairman Liang Hua previously stated that green environmental protection has become the top priority of sustainable development. "One of the important concerns of future communication networks is energy efficiency, the core of which is to transmit more information with less energy, and reduce energy consumption through information technology in energy systems."

Liang Hua said that the outside world is worried about the energy consumption of 5G. But in fact, with the continuous large-scale deployment of 5G commercial networks, the typical energy consumption of 5G is not as high as many people worry about. Under the same coverage capability, it is basically on the same order of magnitude as the typical energy consumption of 4G.

Liang Hua emphasized that the core of improving energy efficiency is to transmit more information with less energy. The energy consumption of 1 kWh of 5G equipment can support the transmission of more than 5,000GB of traffic, which is equivalent to downloading 5,000 ultra-clear movies. In the 4G era, the same power can only download less than 300 movies. It can be seen that 5G is compared to 4G. , the energy efficiency is increased by 10-20 times.

Compared with 4G, 5G base stations have a larger capacity, faster speed, and more connections. Why can they maintain the same energy consumption as the 4G era? Liang Hua explained that this is because Huawei has made a lot of innovations in the process of 5G product development and engineering. For example, AI technology can achieve network synergy and energy saving. On the basis of ensuring stable KPIs, typical wireless network equipment can save 10% to 15% of the power. In terms of 5G site architecture, Huawei's 5G minimalist all-outdoor solution can eliminate the need for base station site air conditioners, greatly reducing energy consumption.

Liang Hua said that by adopting a "soft and hard" solution, Huawei's overall energy consumption per station is 20% lower than the industry average. With the continuous innovation of technology, the energy efficiency of 5G equipment is also higher, and 5G will be more in line with the concept of "energy saving and emission reduction, green environmental protection".
