China Mobile: UNISOC and ZTE completed the function

UNISOC announced that recently, under the guidance of China Mobile, UNISOC and ZTE completed the function and performance verification of China Mobile's first 5G R17 RedCap base station and terminal chip. The 5G R17 RedCap network and terminal have reached an important milestone of industrial maturity on the basis of mature standards, laying a solid foundation for the commercialization of 5G R17 RedCap technology.

This test is based on the TDD 2.6GHz frequency band and the FDD 700MHz frequency band, and the 5G RedCap single-user service rate has reached theoretical expectations. On this basis, UNISOC also took the lead in completing the VoNR technology verification under the 5G R17 RedCap network, which is also the first time in China to successfully implement the call service in the RedCap test.

This test followed the requirements of the "China Mobile 5G RedCap Laboratory Test Specification" compiled by China Mobile, using ZTE's 5G NR base station and UNISOC 5G R17 RedCap platform to test terminals, and completed TDD 2.6GHz and FDD Technical verification of two frequency bands of 700MHz, including 5G RedCap user identification, independent uplink/downlink initial BWP, independent dedicated BWP, 2.6G/700M inter-frequency handover, inter-system interoperability, peak rate, VoNR, and other test contents. The test results fully comply with the 3GPP standard protocol process and performance expectations, providing a test basis for China Mobile's 5G RedCap new technology evaluation and equipment specification formulation.

As a key technology and solution for mid-to-high-speed IoT and industrial IoT scenarios, 5G R17 RedCap can greatly reduce the complexity of terminal radio frequency and baseband, reduce terminal power consumption, and achieve higher battery life. At the same time, 5G R17 RedCap combines the advantages of 5G network slicing, 5G LAN, high-precision timing, high reliability, and low latency, and has intergenerational advantages over 4G IoT technology.

The cost is reduced, which is conducive to promoting the wider application of modules and terminal equipment in vertical industries. In the future, 5G R17 RedCap can be mainly used in wearable devices, industrial Internet of Things and video applications and other scenarios to meet the needs of vertical industries such as smart logistics, smart power, smart inspection, and smart manufacturing.
