In the first half of 2022, the brand with the largest number of side fingerprints in Chinese brand smartphones in vivo, accounting for 26% of the usage, making Vivo nearly 60% of its mobile phones equipped with side fingerprints.

Secondly, with the help of models such as Honor X30 (5G) and Play 30 Plus (5G), Honor has greatly increased the use of side fingerprint recognition, becoming the second-largest mobile phone brand equipped with side fingerprints. In the first half of the year, more than 60% of the mobile phones sold were equipped with the side fingerprint function.

At the same time, Xiaomi is also the third largest mobile phone brand using side fingerprints. In the first half of 2022, 75% of its mobile phones have been equipped with side fingerprints, a year-on-year increase of 15 percentage points.

According to CINNO Research, under-screen fingerprints and side fingerprints are the two preferred solutions for smartphone fingerprint recognition. The fingerprint under the screen only supports OLED, and the folding of the folding mobile phone is not good, so side fingerprint recognition has become the first choice for LTPS and folding mobile phones. Due to the huge cost pressure of key components in upstream of smartphones, terminal manufacturers reduce the cost of non-critical parts. Compared with under-screen fingerprints, side fingerprints not only have cost advantages, but also save space on the fuselage, so they are favored. With the accelerated penetration of OLED smartphones, and the unlocking rate and speed of side fingerprints are superior to the blessing of under-screen fingerprints, the number of side fingerprints on smartphones will further increase.
