Dell launches new rugged tablet


Dell recently launched a tablet called the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme, a three-proof Windows tablet designed to meet the needs of workers who need reliability and durability.

The tablet can withstand drops from 4 feet (about 1.22 meters), can be used normally in temperatures ranging from minus 28 degrees Celsius to plus 62 degrees Celsius, and is IP65 waterproof and dustproof. Dell calls it "the lightest and most powerful 12-inch full-rugged tablet on the market," starting at 2.78 pounds.

The Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme configuration also has some big upgrades, after all, the previous generation model in the series has been released for several years, and the new machine is equipped with a 12th generation Intel Core processor (the previous model used an 8th generation processor), can also be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 memory and 2TB of SSD storage.

In addition, the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme features dual hot-swappable batteries, one of which can be removed and replaced during use, so it will never shut down due to a low battery, and the dual batteries will last up to 20 hours on a charge.

The display has also received a major upgrade, going from a 16:9 aspect ratio to a higher 16:10, and higher brightness of 1200 nits for great outdoor visibility, even wearing Gloves are used. There's also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with Windows Hello support and an upgraded 11-megapixel camera on the back that offers a flash for use in dark environments.

Part of the tablet's appeal is its high configurability, with a base set of ports including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB Type-A, a headphone jack, a microSD card reader, and a nano-SIM card slot. But the ports can also be expanded, the right side provides USB Type-A and HDMI port expansion, and the top provides RJ45 Ethernet, Mini-serial RS-232, and barcode scanner, and these expansion ports are interchangeable, in addition to an Optional smart card reader.

In terms of wireless connectivity, the tablet supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, with optional cellular connectivity. You can choose a Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE modem, or upgrade to a Snapdragon X55 modem for 5G support, and the device is also FirstNet Ready for priority access to emergency services.

Dell also launched a series of related accessories, including a detachable keyboard, as well as a swivel hand strap, a magnetic stand, users can customize the experience according to specific needs.

The Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme will be available before the end of this year, and the pricing will be announced closer to the release date.
