Google Says Older Pixel Phones Won't Upgrade to Support Face Unlock

Google Germany said that it will not introduce face unlocking to older Pixel phones. That means the Pixel 6 Pro may never get the features of the Pixel 7 series.

In addition to the usual fingerprint, PIN, password, or pattern screen lock methods, the Pixel 7 series also features face unlock. Although the option appeared in the Android 13 beta, it has yet to appear on devices with Tensor chips.

According to the Caschys blog, Google Germany has confirmed that Face Unlock will not be rolled out to older Pixel phones.

However, what Google meant was not clear. It's possible the company isn't planning to roll out face unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro anytime soon, and it could be at a later date. But in any case, this won't affect Pixel 6 Pro users too much.

Google's Pixel 7 series face unlock is a first-level biometric feature, unlike Apple's Face ID feature, which uses the TrueDepth camera system to create facial depth data. IT House has learned that Google Pixel 7 series face recognition can only unlock the screen and cannot be used as a security verification method for payment or application login.
