Kioxia PCIe5 SSD Demonstration using Huirong SM8366 main controller

At the 2022 OCP Global Summit, Kioxia showcased its next-generation SSD storage solutions for data centers. These new products are based on the latest Huirong PCIe Gen5 SM8366 master, which can achieve 13.6 GB/s sequential read and 3.4 million IOPS random speed through the demonstration.

The Huirong SM8366 is the successor to the SM8266 launched in November 2020. It is based on the PCIe Gen5 ×4 interface and supports U2, E1.S, and E3.S form factors. Micron and Kioxia products equipped with this master controller have already appeared in OCP activities, but none of them are consumer-grade products.

From the photos given by TweakTown, the SM8366 has a 16-channel NAND interface with a bandwidth of up to 2400 MT/s. It is said that the third-generation enterprise-level controller can achieve sequential read and sequential write speeds of 14 GB/s, which also means that there will be products with 3M read IOPS and 2.8M write IOPS.
