Samsung's share of smartphone display panel revenue expanded to 53%

According to a report by market research firm StrategyAnalytics, in the first half of 2022, the global smartphone display panel market revenue will be US$20 billion. 

The report found that the revenue of the smartphone display panel market in the first half of 2022 fell by 5% year-on-year. Samsung Display continued to lead the market with a 53% revenue share, followed by BOE (15%) and Tianma Microelectronics (8%). During this period, the top three display panel suppliers accounted for nearly 76% of the global smartphone display panel market revenue share.

Jeffrey Mathews, the Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, commented: "The smartphone display panel market has been subdued by declining LCD panel demand, while OLED adoption has expanded into mid-range smartphones, allowing OEMs to drive its momentum. Display Suppliers Seeing rising demand for flexible OLED panels with high refresh rate specifications, this drove OLED growth during the period. Samsung Display is well-positioned to benefit from customer demand, delivering strong customer orders for its OLED panels. Sales pipeline. BOE, TCL, CSOT, and Tianma Microelectronics ramped up OLED production and secured orders to supply OLED panels to leading smartphone brands in the first half of 2022.”

Stephen Entwistle, Vice President of Strategy Analytics' Strategic Technology Practice, said: "We expect OLED panel momentum to continue and drive market growth through stronger display supplier competition and increased OLED display panel production. We expect an LCD panel oversupply to lead to Prices falling further. The weak macro economy poses a huge threat to the overall growth prospects of the smartphone display panel market.”
