The report pointed to strong demand for automotive semiconductors and new government funding and incentive programs in several regions as key growth factors.
Companies such as GlobalFoundries, Intel, Micron, Samsung, SkyWater Technology, TSMC, and Texas Instruments have all announced that new fabs will be built in 2024 or 2025 to meet growing demand.
SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said that although some chip shortages have eased, another chip supply is still tight, and the semiconductor industry is expanding 300mm Fab capacity to lay the foundation to meet long-term demand for a wide range of emerging applications.
