SK Hynix developed a 100-megapixel image sensor

SK Hynix has developed a 100-megapixel image sensor, bringing new changes to the duopoly competition between Sony and Samsung Electronics. SK Hynix unveiled the Hi-A811, a 108-megapixel image sensor for smartphones, at SEDEX 2022 at COEX in Seoul. This is the first time that SK hynix has publicly disclosed an image sensor with more than 100 million pixels. It more than doubles the number of pixels compared to the 50-megapixel product the company developed last year.

The image sensor market is also rapidly expanding as cameras are incorporated into mobile devices and various home appliances in addition to smartphones. Samsung Electronics launched the world's first 100-megapixel image sensor last year, and this year launched another 200-megapixel image sensor, heating up its competition with Sony, which has a 40% market share.

In 2020, SK Hynix ranked seventh in the global image sensor market with a 2% share.
