Recently, at the LCG (London Capital Group) auction, an unopened first-generation iPhone launched in 2007 was finally auctioned for $39,339.6, or about 260,000 yuan. The auction ends on Sunday afternoon. It is reported that this 8GB version of the original iPhone was priced at $599 at the time, and today its worth has doubled 65 times after 15 years.
The original iPhone had a 3.5-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and a web browser. When the late Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs first introduced the product 15 years ago, he called it "an iPod, a cell phone, and an Internet communicator."
The auction house says that the original, well-sealed iPhone is special and precious, and that's what makes this a popular collectible.
