UBS: Global smartphone shipments this year are expected to be about 1.23 billion units

UBS Securities released a report saying that it is expected that global smartphone shipments this year will be about 1.23 billion units, a year-on-year decrease of 9%. Looking forward to 2023, UBS expects the market to recover moderately, with shipments reaching 1.28 billion units, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%.

The report pointed out that in terms of this year's estimated shipments, among the world's top five mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo, and OPPO, except for Apple's terminal sales, which increased slightly by 2.3% this year, the rest will decline.

However, by the first quarter of 2023, thanks to inventory digestion, the shipments of mobile phone factories in mainland China quickly resumed growth. Among them, Vivo increased by 27.5%, followed by OPPO increased by 9.5% and Xiaomi increased by 7.5%. Apple saw zero growth, and Samsung declined by 4.3% before returning to its growth track in the second quarter.
