AMD chief architect: RX 7900 XTX will compete with Nvidia RTX 4080

Nvidia released its RTX 4090 GPU in late September, and the card caused controversy as soon as it was released. Because Nvidia did not intend to lower the pricing of the previous generation RTX 30 series graphics cards, but significantly increased the pricing of its 40 series graphics cards, while delaying the launch date of mid-range models such as the RTX 4070, so that users can buy old cards as much as possible.

But in any case, the price of the RTX 4090 as high as $1599 still caused a lot of criticism from users. So when AMD came up with its $999 Radeon RX 7900 XTX card, PC gamers quickly realized that it was a better value than the RTX 4090, and were comparing the card to the RTX 4090.

In an interview with PCWorld, AMD Chief Architect for Gaming Solutions Frank Azor gave some details on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and their new FSR 3 technology.

When referring to the pricing of the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT, Azor responded, "Let's be realistic, this is a $999 card. It's not a 4090 counterpart, after all, it's 60% more expensive. This is a 4080 Competitor. Let's figure out what we're talking about."

That said, those who buy an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX won't get the performance of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090. AMD thinks it's good value for money, but it's priced against the RTX 4080.

Azor calls the RX 7900 XTX a "successful value proposition," so he's confident: Even PC gamers who pay $1,000 for a graphics card will love the card.

Of course, the Nvidia RTX 4080 is $1199, so the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card is a lot cheaper. Since the $899 RTX 4080 12GB was canceled, Nvidia doesn't seem to have any tricks up its sleeve to target this card.

However, the ban on this card has not been lifted yet.

The current resistance of the gaming industry to AMD and NVIDIA is getting stronger and stronger. Gamers felt that at $1,600, $1,200, or $1,000, these graphics cards were too expensive.

They insist that graphics card companies are still trying to maintain their profit margins in the latter stages of the cryptocurrency mining boom, and such graphics cards may be overpriced. In other words, many people feel that they are being used. But no matter what, players will ultimately choose the previous generation RTX 30 series, RX 6000 series mining cards, this generation's relatively more cost-effective AMD cards, or the performance ceiling of Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics cards.
