Apple iOS 16.2 / iPadOS 16.2 Beta Weather Adds Apple News News Module

With the update of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 Beta, Apple is enhancing the weather application by integrating the Apple News section. The Apple News module sits below the 10-day forecast on the iPhone, showing relevant regional news.

For example, in Raleigh, the app shows news about Atlantic hurricanes; in San Diego, news about fire season. Content varies by location, and tapping a news item in the Weather app will open the Apple News app .

Not all cities show news stories all the time, and it seems that when there is a weather alert at the top of the app, such as a rain or severe weather alert, the news module is also removed. It's unclear whether the weather-related alerts are limited to selected cities, or only show up when relevant information is available. As of now, the feature appears to be only available in the US.

It seems that Apple has introduced a new weather app module on the server side, but it only shows up on devices running iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, which indicates that it is for new features added in the beta update.
