China: The new production capacity of photovoltaic rolling glass in the country increased by 70.5% year-on-year (January to October)

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, from January to October 2022, the new production capacity of photovoltaic rolling glass in the country will increase by 70.5% year-on-year. The average inventory is about 14 days, 7 days less than that at the end of September.

According to data from the China Architectural Glass and Industrial Glass Association, as of the end of October, there were a total of 39 photovoltaic rolling glass production enterprises in the country, with 120 kilns and 402 production lines, with a production capacity of 76,000 tons per day, of which 103 kilns and 366 production lines with a production capacity of 71,000 tons/day. From January to October, the cumulative national output was 12.725 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 54.8%. Among them, the output of photovoltaic rolling glass in September was 1.612 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 57.8%.

From January to October 2022, the average price of 2mm and 3.2mm photovoltaic rolling glass is 20.8 yuan/square meter and 26.9 yuan/square meter, down 14.0% and 7.7% year-on-year. Among them, the average price of 2mm and 3.2mm photovoltaic rolling glass in October was 20.4 yuan/square meter and 26.2 yuan/square meter, down 8.9% and 9.5% year-on-year.

One of the important characteristics of photovoltaic glass is the high transmittance of sunlight. The photovoltaic glass needs to use ultra-clear glass with higher light transmittance. Photovoltaic glass applied to crystalline silicon cells mainly adopts calendering method, and photovoltaic glass applied to thin film cells mainly adopts the float process. Ultra-clear float glass is to inject molten glass into the surface of molten tin, and under the action of gravity, the molten glass forms flat glass on the surface of molten tin. Ultra-clear rolled glass is made by passing molten glass through metal rollers with special patterns, and the surface has special patterns.

Thanks to the higher light transmittance, the calendering process is the main production process of photovoltaic glass. Due to the flat surface of ultra-clear float glass, some light will be reflected, resulting in low light transmittance of the glass. The front of the ultra-clear rolled glass is treated with a special suede surface to reduce light emission, and the back is treated with a special pattern, which greatly enhances the transmittance of sunlight at different incident angles.
